A NEW ADVENTURE

Starting my own (very, very) small business is an idea I've been playing with for a long time. Being a stay at home mom means being able to be completely devote my entire day to my children and my home which is an amazing gift. I seriously love being a stay at home mom. As many of my fellow stay at home moms can attest to though, having a way to express yourself outside of childcare and homemaking can be incredibly therapeutic. Whether its through hobby, sport, or volunteering, it's nice to have a way to express yourself. I have always gravitated towards art.

I've been encouraged many times by different people to sell my work, but to be completely honest, the idea has always terrified me. Putting yourself out there in product form to be critiqued and judged is really intimidating. I just didn't want to open myself up to that. Really, I just want people to like me. I was afraid of how easily it would be to let my self worth get tied up in the success of something like this...instead of it being something that's just supposed to be fun.

Well, about a month ago a friend of mine approached me and asked if I would make her a custom print for her. She told me she loved my hand lettering and wanted me to make something for her new house. As we messaged back and forth about her custom print our conversation shifted to Etsy. She had started her own shop about a year ago and encouraged me to give it a try. Between her encouragement and a couple other friends also asking me about selling my work, I decided it was time to let go and give it a try.

For now my store is focused on custom special events signs and home décor prints utilizing my modern calligraphy skills. I am hoping to be able to create custom products for anything from special events like weddings and baby showers to home décor and photo props. It's going to be a learning process, which is scary to do with an audience, but hopefully it will be fun the majority of the time! That's the goal at least.

If you'd like to check out the shop, I have a few items up already. However I'm pretty excited about creating custom made to order items! Send me a message on Etsy or Facebook or text or whatever with ideas and we can chat materials/look/costs. If you live in the Seattle area we can even discuss waiving shipping if you're willing to pick up :)

You can follow us at our new shop Instagram too!

Thank you to those who encouraged me (especially my sweet husband who is always so supportive and has far more confidence in me than I feel I deserve). Cheers to a new adventure!
