DIY Glitter Confetti Placemats
For Duncan's birthday party I was really excited to do an all-out table scape with confetti and glitter. Then I walked through our garage where we hosted a neighborhood Halloween photo booth last year...and saw the confetti that took us forever to sweep up that night but is still somehow lingering. So I decided if I was going to do confetti I'd need to do it in a way that didn't make a mess. I remembered awhile back Beijos Events doing a party where they had glitter placemats and I knew I just had to figure out a way to do a DIY version. I got this laminator off amazon awhile back for some of my calligraphy work and then a moment of inspiration struck. Here's how I made these super simple, super cute glitter placemats (and I made all sorts of other stuff with the same method!!)
Gather your supplies! You'll need the following
Foil Tissue Paper or Pre-made confetti
Glitter
Fringe Scissors (mine are Martha Stewart brand from Michaels)
Grab a sheet of foil tissue paper and fold it up on itself a couple times
Fringe the edge lengthwise and then cut across the fringe width-wise. It'll feel messy and uneven but you'll end up with fun organic shaped glitter
Gather your handmade confetti and other glitter products you want to include in your placemats. You can throw in pre-made confetti, glitter, and other colors for all sorts of fun looks.
Open up one of your laminator sheets and sprinkle your confetti mix into the page.
Spread evenly but don't be too particular since the laminator will shift things around.
Fold your page over and pull out any excess hanging off the edges.
Carefully feed through your laminator. This part again can feel a little messy but just hold on to the edges as best you can.
I found that a couple placemats got a bit caught in the feed of the laminator so I watched them come out the other side so they wouldn't get caught. I also fed a couple through twice to get rid of air bubbles.
Enjoy!!! They're so fun and cute and best of all CLEAN. All the fun of confetti with none of the lingering messes. I also made gift bag tags and party invites using the same method. I also started laminating my pressed flowers. I think I may be a little bit obsessed with the laminator!
