Simple Bedroom Refresh

You may or may not know this about me, but I am VERY particular. I am a SAHM and I have a very strong opinion on the way I want things to look. I have to look at them all day long so it can really grate on me over time. Our bedroom was a space I really wanted to love, but I was having the hardest time styling it. After looking through a million photos online I finally realized the problem was that all the beds I loved had either wood or very light grey headboards.

We bought a king size bed when Duncan was born (how did we go so many years in a queen, I’ll never know). The headboard we bought was dark grey. It just wasn’t working for me, but I certainly wasn’t going to buy a whole new headboard because I didn’t LOVE the color. Then one day I was watching an instagram story from one of my favorite DIY instagrammers and saw her post about making a headboard from scratch. I decided to check it out and low and behold she had used curtains for her upholstery fabric. Now I grew up with a mom who did a lot of sewing. It USED to be if you sewed something it could be a lot cheaper than buying. But fabric has gotten really expensive and upholstery fabric is seriously pricey.

These curtains are $35 and it only took one panel to cover my old headboard! I grabbed my upholstery stapler and cut off the hemmed edges of the curtain…I think it took about 30 minutes total from start to finish. Make sure you iron or steam them out before you start though! It all really fell into place after changing out the headboard.
